Sister Gloria School Newsletter: Month Year

School Principal

I would like to welcome all new students and staff and all those students and staff who are returning this year. I hope you have a terrific year.

We have some new things happening this year, like our breakfast program and the introduction of Industrial Arts and Home Ec.

Renovations are progressing with the high school wing renovations almost complete. The gym is expected to be up and running in the next few weeks. We will be opening it to the public for evenings and events in early October.

The last phase of renovations has begun and we expect all renovations to be complete in early January.

My name is Miss Stephens. I'm delighted to be here in beautiful Garden River and look forward to getting to know everyone in the community! My role as counsellor is to help each student and staff experience a caring community every day where we can all confidently build friendships, explore our interests, and pursue our goals. The invitation is always open -- to students, teachers, parents, and community members -- to drop in at my office. I look forward to meeting you all!

Dear K4 Parents,

Welcome to K4! My name is Mrs. D’Or, (everyone knows me as Albina, haha) and our class Education assistant is Mrs. Marina Nanooch and we will have the pleasure of teaching your child this year. It is our belief that a child's success is based on a cooperative parent/teacher relationship. We look forward to working with you throughout the year.

We hope you and your child enjoyed the summer and that you are ready to embark on an important milestone in your child's life. Kindergarten is a year of growing socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually. Your involvement, interest, and enthusiasm will help make this a wonderful year of growth for you and your child.

Take a moment to imagine the kindergarten world: letters, numbers, stories, sharing blocks, puzzles, play, paint and play-dough. Imagination and creativity are everywhere. As you talk with your child about their day and celebrate their best effort on the work they do, remember that Kindergarten is a "child's garden." Many times the process is more important than the product, and learning is accomplished by doing, touching, and experiencing.

We feel that our greatest contribution so far in education has been serving our community students to the best of our abilities and being advocates for their education.

Thank you for entrusting your child to us,

Mrs. D’Or & Mrs. Nanooch

K-5 Classroom

Welcome Back to School!

I am so very happy to be back in Garden River for another year! This marks my 9th year teaching at Sister Gloria School.

I hope that everyone has had a fun and restful summer break. I had a wonderful summer camping around Alberta. I am very excited to meet the new Kindergarten students that I will be working with this year. Parents please stop by our classroom any time to see what your child is working on.

This year I am also working with the High School students and parents to learn about and discuss high school credits. For the grade 10 students it will be there first lesson on credits, how the courses work in high school, and what courses/credits they will need to successfully graduate with an Alberta High School Diploma. For the grades 11 and 12 students we will be discussing what credits they have already, what they would like to do once they are done High School, and what courses/credits they will need to accomplish any post secondary school options they want to pursue. Parents please come with your child(ren) to meet and discuss their credits and future goals.

I look forward to a wonderful, fun filled, and learning year!!

After that we will be moving right along into the good stuff -- letters, numbers, and colours! We will be working hard, but we will have lots of fun, too. I can't wait to see how the Grade Ones will change and grow!
