Welcome to Sister Gloria School: 2019 - 2020

Hello Buffalo’s

I hope everyone is excited to return back to school. Cross country and Volleyball will be starting on Sept 9. Best of luck to everyone this upcoming school year!

Mr. McKay

Hi

I’m John and I’m excited to be returning as the Grade 7 teacher. Ms Jenn and I have had a very exciting and very busy summer during which we got married. I’m looking forward to getting to know the new Grade 7s better and exploring all aspects of the curriculum from Canadian history to the present day. From the improbable to the negative in math. Exploring lots of worlds in English, from Cree reserves to Middle Earth. I can’t wait for another great year in SGS.

Hello Sister Gloria School!

I hope that everyone had a wonderful summer holiday and are looking forward to the new school year! I had a wonderful summer and am excited to be back with my new husband John for my third year! This year my role is a little different and I will be doing lots of work with the board as Inclusive Education Coordinator for all four schools in Little Red! You can still find me at SGS most of the time in the special education room.

I hope that all students have come back ready to learn and grow as strong, smart, and positive people!

Here are a couple photos from my summer. John and I got married and we enjoyed some traveling on the east coast of Canada and in the USA where we got to see many bison up close!

Grade 6

Tansi! My name is Bonnie Barks and I teach grade 6 to a wonderful group of students this year:) I am originally from Red Earth First Nation in Saskatchewan. I am a mother and a kokom, I have 5 children (Kimberly, Christina, Sohmer, Nitanis, and Jacob) and 3 grandchildren (Elena, Dream Dancer, and Myles). I convocated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1997 with a degree in Education and taught for about 12 years in grades Nursery to grade 10, all in First Nations communities. I went back to school and got a degree in Indigenous Social Work in 2010. For a few years, I was a family counselor and later a supervisor of a mental health agency in the community of Onion Lake. Last year I was a half-time school counselor and half-time grade 8/9 Health and grade 10 teacher. Some of the things I like to do are: drive, listen to podcasts, play bingo (because that's what kokoms do), play with my cicims, and try new things. I would really like to attend some community events if invited:) I look forward to meeting community members, especially parents and guardians. Please come see me in our classroom if you would like to meet me or if you have any questions or concerns. Ekosi:)

Grade 3

Hello, Garden River Community. Another school year and another awesome group of grade 3's. We start off with practicing classroom and school routines so that we can have an environment where learning can happen. Regular attendance will help your child be successful in grade 3.

Your child will be learning reading and writing skills and basic math skills. They will aslo learn about different countries of the world. Animal life cycles, hearing and sound, and Rocks and minerals will be taught in science. We will use the Second Step Program throughout the year. In art, we will do seasonal arts and crafts.
